Left or Right? Right or Wrong?

In today’s political climate, it’s not a matter of left or right, it’s a matter of right and wrong…truth and lies.  There is no middle ground – none whatsoever.  You’re either with me or a’gin me and how sad to feel that way.  Most of us are too lazy to sift out and research our so-called leaders before we vote for them.  And how sad that even in our local mayoral elections we chose to vote for a candidate not based on their beliefs and accomplishments, but their political affiliation.  That’s the unfortunate situation Americans deal with now.  Political divide.  Religious divide.  Racial divide.   And apathy.   Our current administration is dividing our families and our friends.  We find ourselves questioning our sanity – our sensibilities – our reasoning.  The stress is unbelievable.   Upon meeting someone new, we find ourselves wanting to ask, “What is your political party and for whom did you vote in the last election?”  But we don’t.  We politely say, “Hello,” and move on.  Perhaps we shouldn’t.  Perhaps if we challenge those disagreeing with us, we may start an effective dialogue.  Then again we may get accosted or worse – another effect of our current leader’s unfortunate administration and his truths.  Most of us want to believe people are good and well-meaning and intelligent, but not in today’s world.  Those of us who have friends and family ‘on the other side,’ whatever the other side is, find ourselves wanting to pull away and question our own sanity.  “How could he or she in good conscious support a candidate with opposing beliefs, especially those statements that degrade, ostracize or malign?”  I suppose we will never truly know, because if you ask that person he or she will most often, cite the opposing candidate’s faults.  Any debate teacher will tell you that is the most ridiculous and ineffective argument one could make and it only shows that, that person has either only voted for celebrity or a known name,  and hasn’t researched ‘said’ candidate(s).  I once had a friend (and I say once, because unfortunately since the election I have reluctantly distanced myself because she aligned herself with a charlatan and, “she has lost her fucking mind”) who always said to me, “Watch what their feet do.”  I’ve watched and I’ve listened.  Have you?  Grandeur for self gratification/celebrity, hate, racism, ostracizing or degrading, maligning and repeatedly lying for self preservation is not in my nature, nor should it be in yours.

I agree. It seems the majority of people aren't thinking anymore; they're just reacting in a knee-jerk kind of way. "All liberals are such and such." "All conservatives are such and such."

I'm appalled by the anti-education attitude that I keep hearing. Do people really want their bridges designed and built by the uneducated? It's all so self-referential. If the speaker didn't go to college, then clearly college is unnecessary. I'm not saying everyone needs or should go to college, but seeing it as bad or evil is ridiculous and frightening.

Why does diversity scare some people? Associating only with people just like you is dull and no fun. I suppose it's rather like physical exercise. Some people want to take a pill or find some other easy, no-work way to lose weight and be fit. If you just hang out with people who look like you, think like you, and act like you, you're not exercising your brain or anything else.
